Ukrainian turkey needs to penetrate the export market
Over the past 4 years the production of turkey meat in Ukraine has doubled. According to UkrAgroConsult in 2010 turkey implemented 10.1 thousand tons, and in 2013, sales had already reached 18.5 thousand tons. By the end of this year, it is expected that the production of meat turkeys will increase to 20 thousand tons.
The reasons for this growth were:
- Increase in demand for Dietary and organic turkey;
- Optimization of production, the use of more advanced modern technologies;
- Investment in this area of business.
However, despite the successful development of the internal market of meat turkeys, consumption of this product Ukrainians still remains a low level. So, on one person accounts for only 1 kilogram of turkey. For comparison, in the United States and Israel - from 9 to 15 kilograms per capita.
Decrease in the purchasing power of Ukrainians do not give optimistic forecasts about the increasing level of domestic sales, so manufacturers turkey necessary access to the export market.
The largest companies that produce meat turkeys in Ukraine are "Dobrobut Precarpathia" UPG-Invest and Plemptahsovhoz Brovarskoy. Their share in total production is about two-thirds. Firms see prospects for development in the European market, but our products to Western consumers have not yet admitted. Exports to Asian countries has a different kind of complexity. Culture meat consumption in this region is different from ours, American and European. Turkey in Asian countries is not in demand.
Turkey production growth in the next 2-3 years will be from 5 to 7%. This is a promising sector of the economy, which requires further development.
