At the Guangzhou Auto Show, Chery unveiled a compact segment front-wheel drive coupe-crossover and, concurrently, the firstborn of Chery’s new “global product series” Omoda (where the letter “O” stands for “brand new” and Moda stands for “fashion trend”). A car that combines spectacular design, modern interior and productive technology. The 290T version, equipped with a 1.6-liter SQRF4J16 Kunpeng turbocharged engine with 197 hp and 290 Nm of torque, which works with a Getrag 7-speed robotic transmission with double wet clutch. Chery stated that the Omoda line is aimed at the global market and young people. They plan to attract the attention of a potential audience with an original design and the right pricing policy.

The exterior of the C5 crossover is made in the new design concept of the Chinese brand called Art In Motion (“Art in motion”). The coupe-shaped body looks attractive, spectacular, stylish and extraordinary, and there are enough interesting ideas in its appearance. At the front, the five-door flaunts an impressive frameless radiator grille, two-story lighting equipment and a massive bumper, and at the back it boasts elegant lanterns connected by a horizontal bar, a embossed tailgate and a neat bumper with a pair of fake pipes.
On the side, the car is distinguished by a balanced and sporty taut profile – a long sloping hood, an underestimated roof with a “floating effect”, a high window sill line, expressive sidewalls and rounded-square wheel arches that can accommodate wheels with dimensions from 18 inches. In terms of its dimensions, the “fifth Omoda”, as already noted, is a representative of the compact segment: its length is 4400 mm, its width is 1830 mm, and its height does not exceed 1588 mm. The distance between the front and rear axles of the car extends to 2630 mm, and its ground clearance is 190 mm. In running order, the SUV weighs at least 1456 kg. The interior is tailored with all the latest fashion trends in mind, and the main focus here is on two 12.3-inch screens placed under a single glass: the left one displays the dashboard readings, and the right one is responsible for infotainment. Neither the embossed multi-steering wheel, truncated from below, nor the fully touch panel (under the central touchscreen) of the air conditioning system fall out of the overall picture. Inside, only high-quality finishing materials are used – pliable plastics, good leather, lacquered decor, etc.
The salon is five-seater, and the inhabitants of both rows will not feel cramped. In the front part, armchairs with a pronounced side profile, integrated headrests and wide adjustment intervals are used, and in the back there is an ergonomically profiled sofa with a folding armrest in the center.
In addition, the interior features a two-story central tunnel, as well as a climate control sensor unit and a compact gear selector.
The trunk of this model is small – its volume is 378 liters. The second row of seats is divided into two unequal sections, which fold flush with the floor and form an even rookery (the capacity increases to ≈1200 liters). A full-size spare tire and the necessary minimum of tools are hidden in a niche under the raised floor.
