Mercedes-Benz showed a rival Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan.
The novelty under the name EQE travels up to 660 kilometers on a single charge.
An important addition to the Mercedes-EQ family of electric vehicles is the addition of the EQE sedan. The manufacturer directly calls it a competitor to the Tesla Model S, Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT, Lucid Air and BMW i4.
EQE shares a platform with the flagship EQS and in many respects is its smaller version, although the front “black panel” branded for the sub-brand and the lighting technology are original here. The dimensions of the car are 4.99×1.96×1.51 meters, the wheelbase is 3.12 meters. Thus, it is about 22 centimeters shorter than the “eska”, and loses 9 centimeters in terms of the distance between the axles. But there is no difference in aerodynamic efficiency: both models have a record low drag coefficient of 0.20.
In the interior of the Mercedes-Benz EQE, a separate digital instrument panel and a multimedia touchscreen are installed by default, but for a surcharge they will offer a “Hyperscreen” (as in the same EQS): 12.3-inch monitors for the driver and front passenger combined under one glass and a central screen by 17.7 inches. Also on the list of options is an adaptive air suspension, a fully controlled chassis with a rear wheel steering angle of up to 10 degrees and a huge set of assistance systems.
The sedan made its debut in the rear-wheel drive modification of the EQE 350 with a single electric motor of 215 kilowatts (292 hp) and 530 Nm. According to preliminary calculations, it should gain 97 km / h in 5.6 seconds and accelerate to a maximum of 209 km / h. An all-wheel drive version with an additional electric motor on the front axle will also be available, but its characteristics have not yet been disclosed.
The battery capacity was 90.6 kilowatt-hours compared to 107.8 kilowatt-hours for the Mercedes-Benz EQS. The battery pack is not only smaller, but also charges more slowly, since it accepts a current of no more than 170 kilowatts (the flagship has 200 kilowatts). So, at a 110-kilowatt station, it will take 31 minutes to “refuel” from 10 to 80%. A full charge should be enough for 660 kilometers of the WLTP cycle.
The public debut of the Mercedes-Benz EQE 350 will take place the other day at the Munich Motor Show. The sedan will reach American dealers at the beginning of next year – simultaneously with the “charged” Mercedes-AMG EQS. Prices have not yet been announced. Gallery: Mercedes-Benz EQE 350.
